Our Journey to Asheville

Hello! Long time no see blog friends! This video will show you the road trip we took as we made our big move across the country! We made stops in Jefferson, TX, Nashville, TN, Asheville, NC (of course), and a tour through Georgia, then finally reaching our home for the next few months, Gulf Shores, AL.

The stranger in the cowboy hat is a very close friend of my husband and I, Mike Schikora. He was actually my husband's Best Man in our wedding! He is a country singer/songwriter and we had the pleasure of starting off our trip with him and meeting his producer family the Bonaguras. You might have heard Alyssa Bonagura's song "I Make My Own Sunshine" on a recent Lowe's commercial. We had an amazing time at their home/recording studio singing, dancing, and making dinner together. Such a cool experience! Also got to take a tour of Nashville through the eyes of our friend Mike who used to work down Music Row at RCA. Even though he had never seen the show American Pickers, we dragged him along with us to their Nashville Antique Archaeology store and he loved it. I was so happy to finally go and it was so cool seeing things the guys have picked on the show in person in the store.

We left our buddy behind and headed through the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina until we reached Asheville, our future home! Couldn't be more excited to be there for a little while at least. Spent a few days to move the majority of our stuff into storage and also just to relax. Even made a connection with a store downtown to sell my work in, so quite a successful stay! Then we headed through the beautiful state of Georgia, stopping in Stone Mountain, Helen, Dahlonega, and Juliette (where the movie Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed). We even ate at the Whistle Stop Cafe and had the famous fried green tomatoes! They were delish!

Finally we reached our home for the moment, Gulf Shores, AL. Staying with my mother-in-law only a mile away from the beach. Not a bad temporary home :) I do feel a bit like a gypsy right now! Living out of a suitcase without a real home, but that will make having a place even sweeter. We have a BIG show coming up Oct. 11-14, the 41st annual National Shrimp Festival. Sounds funny, but it has a huge following and very popular for its art vendors as well as Gulf Coast seafood. The hubby and I have plenty of work to keep us busy, and we are loving every minute of it. Here's to picking up and following our passion!

XO, Rhi
