Going Local
I'm really digging the emphasis being put on buying local here lately. I'm hopeful that it will continue and become more than just a craze, but more a way of life. Buying from local farmers markets and eateries that buy from local farms is not only good for your health, but also good for your community and the economy. Also, it's a lot of fun! The same goes for buying other things locally such as music and art.
On a recent visit to Asheville, NC I was amazed by the way the city has embraced the "buying local" attitude. There are numerous farmers markets and most of the restaurants buy their food from local farmers. I stopped in for lunch at Early Girl Eatery (a scratch kitchen) in downtown Asheville, and the fresh local food really spoke volumes about why this is becoming a growing way of life in the town. It's simply better!
My hometown Dallas has many farmers markets popping up everywhere, and I couldn't be happier. Like the sign plastered all over Asheville (pic above), I think local is the new black, and I hope it stays that way.

My Sketchbook Has Arrived!
So after missing last year's deadline to participate in the Sketchbook Project, I couldn't wait to do it this year. Well I just got my sketchbook in the mail!! It's smaller than I imagined, but there's nothing wrong with that. For those who haven't heard of the Sketchbook Project...as they say, "It's like a concert tour, but with sketchbooks." I will be sketching with the theme "Uncharted Waters". I think I could do some really cool things with this theme! The finished sketchbook will go on tour and reach it's destination in the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Art Library. This should be fun!

Love to my Mama
Happy Mother's Day! This is the card I crafted for my mom. I included the polaroid mini magnets I said I would make. One is on the inside, which isn't pictured, and the other on the back. I thought I would give them to her because they are of the trip we took to Paris together and it's a fun way of remembering it. I owe it all to my mom. All my craftiness comes from her. She has always inspired me to be creative. We would always do fun projects together when me and my sister were growing up. Thank you Mama!

Happy Cinco De Mayo Everyone!
A quick little illo for you today! Ha! Such a chill day to relax and eat some yummy Mexican food and maybe a margarita! My favorite! I could probably live off of chips, salsa and guacamole alone. By the way... my favorite jar of salsa is Rick Bayless' Frontera Salsa (Double Roasted Tomato). I once had a craving for it and ended up eating the whole jar in one day...the stuff is good. Happy partying!
