Happy Leap Day!

Hope you spend this bonus day doing things you love!

Scout Creative has a new printable DIY calendar out for March! Some fun little snails this time :) Here's the link: Calendar of the Month Club.

If you haven't tried it yet, try it at least once. It's a fun little project if you have time. You can sign up to have the calendars sent to your email once a month too!

Over the Weekend...seen through my phone

I had a fun weekend! Hope you all did too! I visited the very hip area on Knox/Henderson in Dallas with so many fun little shops and places to eat and hang out. A few of my favorites are the Pearl Cup, Milk and Honey, and We Are 1976. The Pearl Cup is a great spot to grab a cup of coffee or their famous heart latte.

Milk and Honey is a clothing store with a similar style to Anthropologie, but with more reasonable prices. I'm quite surprised at the affordability of their beautiful clothes. Think Zooey Deschanel kind of style :) The store is simply beautiful and creative in it's displays as well.

We Are 1976 is probably my favorite non-clothing store in Dallas. Being an illustrator/designer, it's like heaven to me. It's filled with silk-screened posters, a wide assortment of paper goods, books, gifts and art from local artists and designers. Sigh...I visited the shop because I love it and wanted to inquire about maybe adding my own artwork to the shop. I've sent in my submissions, so we'll see soon!

Next up, we visited the Historic McKinney Flour Mill,
where a very special event will be held in a couple months :)
The mill, just off the downtown McKinney square, was built in 1872 and now holds special events. It is expanding this year to include urban lofts and studios! It's going to be one very creative and unique renovation, while still maintaining the historic character of the building. Well, I got to take a tour of the upstairs site where the construction will begin, and I snapped some pics with my phone. It looks as if the old mill workers had only just left for a lunch break! That's how much history is left in the building. I was in awe of the beauty of it. Sigh again...

Have a great week everyone!

35 Denton...why you need to GO :)

source
Keeping the local music scene alive is no problem for Denton, TX. With the ever-growing in popularity, 35 Denton, it is proving to be an Austin-like city for discovering great new local bands as well as other nationally based independent artists. 35 Denton, set to take place March 8-11, is a walkable music and art festival in the heart of Denton, and boasts quite a line-up of talent. It is for Denton what SXSW is for Austin! The festival is a huge boost to the local music and arts community.

I am so excited to be a part of the event this year. I will be selling my handmade Ello Lovey prints and cards for the public. Joining me in selling, is my man Mike Wurman of Dot4Dot :)I feel so privileged to be surrounded by so much talent all at once! Music and Art! Can't beat that. It's only 2 weeks away, but you can still get tickets! If this sounds like fun to you check it out! I can hardly wait :)

My crafty collaboration with Sheepish Knitting & Crochet

I'm so excited to share with you what I've been up to recently!
I met Meredith of Sheepish Knitting & Crochet last November at the Etsy Dallas Jingle Bash. She was my booth neighbor and it was both our first time doing the Jingle Bash, and was her first time doing a craft show! We helped each other out when things got a little overwhelming. I'm so thankful she was there by my side and in the same boat as me :) It was such a fun day for both of us!

Well we are now in cahoots with a little project! Meredith's dreamy blog One Sheepish Girl, is one of my favorites and as soon as I saw a post she did about adding crochet borders to old calendars, it hit me!!! Why don't we put our talents together? So I contacted her right away about the collaboration and she thankfully agreed!  I knew her crocheted borders would look beautiful on the new prints I had been working on.

So as you can see, she is adding her crafty magic to them and I couldn't be happier! I will let you all know when these will be available in our shops!

I love it when creative minds come together. The results are magic :)

Sketchbook Project 2012: Uncharted Waters

Well here it is: my Sketchbook Project 2012 -Uncharted Waters :)

I didn't get pictures of every page, so there is more! There was also some texture and more detail added to some of theses pages. I made a video of me going through each page, so I will share that soon. It will also be digitized by Art House, so I will let you know when that happens.

Well...I had a lot of fun with this project! Once I decided I was going to rebind the book using black paper, the doodling just came to me. I wanted to take this opportunity to share some positive thinking and inspiration. The past year I really was in "uncharted waters" starting my Etsy shop. It's been a lot of work, but I couldn't be happier with where I'm headed. I've done a number of craft fairs, something I've always wanted to do, and I am blessed to have had some amazing opportunities come my way!

The most important point I wanted to get across with my sketchbook is: Get out there and do what you really want to do and don't be afraid of making mistakes! Just do it because you have the passion for it, and when you do that, everything will fall into place.

Anyways, I hope you can check my book out in person. The 2012 tour starts April 14th! You can find out more info on the tour dates here: Sketchbook Project :)
